Middle School Youth to Houston Texas

Hey friends... Messiah Youth are on the road again! This time it's the middle school students who are traveling to Houston, Texas...

You're probably thinking, Houston, in July? You've gotta be crazy.

Well, we are, just a little.

Last year, our group spent 4 days in Houston, doing a service project with LincHouston's hispanic mission and some time at the beach and watched an Astros game. We had a great time.

Then this fall, hurricane Ike hit the Houston/Galveston area and the middle school youth wanted to return to see if they could help. So return we are.

We leave on Wednesday the 8th and return on the 12th of July. Be watching for updates and more information (plus, hopefully some pics from our Colorado trip)

Thursday!

Today we had our service project at the Arkansas Valley Christian Mission.
We did some yard work, pulled some weeds and trimmed some trees. Then we went to K's and had an awesome lunch. My name turned out to be Sylvester Stallone. Then we drove to the top of the world to see the best view on Earth. Now we are all just chillen out at the lodge. What a great day.

Tuesday day and Wednesday

On Tuesday day after we did the show at the nursing home, we drove for a few more hours. We were not able to go to the sand dunes because of the rain. So we drove straight through from Dalhart to Buena Vista, seeing the Colorado Gator Farm and the UFO watchtowers on the way. We arrived at the Clarks home and explored the area and then ate dinner.
On Wednesday, we got up early so we could go whitewater rafting with Noah's Ark. The water was 42 degrees and we could feel it! As we were going down one of the rapids one of our boats got stuck on a rock and it took quite a while to get it unstuck. We traveled 10 miles down the Arkansas River, getting plenty wet.

Monday

We left the church and drove a long time. We then picked up the RV and dropped the church van off at a another church. We ate Dairy Queen for dinner. We then kept driving to Dalhart, Texas where we slept. Today we are performing a show at a nursery home. After that we will go to the sand dunes. Tonight we will stay the night at the Clarks colorado home.

Pre-trip thoughts

Today's the day! We leave for Amarillo, Dalhart and places further west today!

After talking with the youth minister at the baptist church in Dalhart, he's arranged 3 mini-events at which our youth will serve.

The first is at a food pantry. I suspect we'll be organizing, cleaning, etc.

The second is at the Dalhart crisis pregnancy center. I'm not sure what we'll do there, but i would hope it would include holding CUTE babies!

The third is at the nursing home in Dalhart, either helping the senior citizens do "weird science" or leading them in a time of music and a puppet show!

Please pray that we arrive in Dalhart safely, that our trip is smooth and with few problems.

More later,

Hannah
